History

This undertaking provides an answer to the demands on the part the community of those teachers who deal with teaching how to play the guitar, namely to establish a national Polish event addressed to children and young people aged up to 18 only, one that would integrate and artistically form young electric guitar players. In spite of its huge popularity, the electric guitar is not as yet covered by curricula in State Musical Schools (except for Musical Academies). For this reason, there is a huge diversification in the quality, methodologies and forms of teaching to play this instrument. Unlike in the case of instrumentalists who play the classical guitar, for electric guitar in Poland, there is no uniform assessment system or any defined measures of teachers’ work quality.

The development of technical abilities and artistic sensitivity with young Polish electric guitar players (younger children and young people aged up to 18) is currently not subject to any external assessment; there is no experience exchange platform, and there is no possibility of a confrontation of the abilities possessed. At present, young people very frequently use the YouTube service, and they form their knowledge and musical tastes based on the videos recorded by guitar players that they watch. The use of YouTube instructional videos is becoming more and more widespread among young guitar enthusiasts; many of these constitute definitely negative examples of wrong or even damaging teaching.

The Baltic Festival of Electric Guitar makes an effort to meet this demand by establishing a national Polish (and ultimately international) event addressed solely to children and young people aged up to 18.

About the Festival

The popularization of guitar playing and forming the habit of conscious and critical perception of art among children and young people is the main purpose of the Festival.
